About Lava Ceramics

I’m Cari (Caroline) Quinn and I’m the muddy hands behind Lava Ceramics.

I work from my home studio in Christchurch, with a dog under my table and 2 cats keeping me on my toes, climbing everywhere they shouldn’t !

As long as I can remember I’ve been happiest while I’m being creative. It took me until my 40’s to discover clay. Once I did, there was no going back…

It began when I started sculpting my own rescue dog, then our rabbit, then I started on the dogs in the neighbourhood. I created an enormous dog pack, and then created badgers, cats, sharks, mice, chickens, birds and so much more…..

You can still see that love of the natural world in my work now but I’ve also really leaned into my love of colour, silliness and fun. I don’t take myself or life too seriously and i encourage you to join my party!
